Well, here
we are again with the third issue of S K 0 H. I guess you all know the
format by now but for any 'Johnny-come-latelies' (where have you been for
the last six months!), the newsletter is free on receipt of a large S A

Thanks to everyone who sent information for the discography, photos etc.
All contributions are much appreciated.
Thanks (as always) to Irene, Wilko, Norman, Sav and Steve
NEWS UPDATE
They do say that no news is good news but there's always an exception and in this case, I'm afraid that we're no nearer an album release by the band! However when something transpires, I'm sure you'll hear about it first in S.K.O.H.! There have been a couple of recent releases that may be of interest: "A PINT OF YOUR BEST PUB ROCK, PLEASE!" This CD features 'Bottle Up & Go' from the Wilko & Lew Lewis EP of the same name. And of course, there is the DR FEELGOOD 2 CD set released in April. To tie in with this release, the book 'DOWN BY THE JETTY' by Tony Moon was also released and as a preview to this, June's RECORD COLLECTOR magazine had a Dr Feelgood feature. Whilst on the subject of Record Collector in their 'Top 500 Collectable Artists' poll, Wilko's placing rose 70+ places from last year to #395. By the way, an interview with Wilko and the band by one of our readers, Grant Tunbridge, is planned for a forthcoming edition of 'Steppin' Out' - a guide to what's on in the Kent and surrounding area. There are plans for a guest appearance by Wilko on the CD release by the London based 'Doghouse' R&B band who have supported Wilko and the band on a couple of occasions. This should be due out in September Further details when available. Norman has just returned from Denmark where he played with lan Dury & The Blockheads at the Roskilde Festival on the 28th June. It is probable that the new album by lan and the Blockheads will be released overseas before a U.K. deal is finalised. The Madness album mentioned last issue is still being completed - Suggs obviously busy with his T V work. By the way, whilst Norman was away with the Blockheads, the bass slot in the band was filled at the Stevenage gig by David (any chance of a set list?) Hunter who occasionally deputises for Norman.

RECORD REVIEW
S0UTHEND
ROCK 2
(CD/1997/Lunch 01 702 001)
(Review by Andy Cowles. Q July 1997)
The true capital of the Thames Delta. Southend stands as the birthplace of pub rock and the breeding ground of punk. This budget compilation uses Dr Feelgood and Wilko Johnson to draw the eye, but it's mainly a collection of new bands working the traditional waterfront. The quality is variable, but it's worth investigating for Mickey Jupp's honky tonkin' "Standing At The Crossroads Again", The Hamsters "Route 666" and The Marques Brothers delta workout on "Crawling King Snake" - featuring ex-Feelgood Gypie Mayo. The rest are probably better tasted live. **
Thanks again to anyone who took the trouble to write in with additions (for the discography). Chris Frances, Steve Smith, Graham Parker, Paolo Chiorino & anyone else I've forgotten. Obviously there will be some more - especially non-UK releases, so let me know!
Next
issue of S.K.O.H. due in October. So till then...........!
